Biography

Spybus is Bob Adams’ first novel. He has written plays until now. Two of these toured Scotland and two,  The Roup and Aberdeen Angus, have been published. They, like his novel, are humorous with a serious core.  He wrote a play about cloning, Hebden, before this became a popular subject.  It was performed at the Edinburgh International Science Festival.  Before taking to writing full time Bob worked in the timber industry in West Africa and the furniture industry in Scotland.  He served for some years in The Parachute Regiment and was involved in organising Scottish athletic coaching.  He is a former chairman of the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain in Scotland.

This is a story of foul, cruel deeds on the periphery of international espionage, leavened by the good humour, wit, common sense and ineptitude of ordinary people.

An experienced agent has been captured and faces the grim prospect of interrogation.  British intelligence must prevent this at all costs.

The section leader, at his wit’s end, asks Jason, our modest hero and not very successful junior member of staff, for ideas.  Jason suggests sending a whole bus load of tourists as amateur spies with one professional.

The professional is soon captured and the motley crew of amateurs go it alone.  Jason resents that some members of the party have been given secret instructions, but not him, yet it is his duty to bring them back alive.

Unaware of the seriousness of their mission, the part struggles through dreadful dangers, punctuated by merriment.
